Laysa Peixoto, at the age of 20, is a Forbes 30 Under 30 pilot, diver, multi medalist in international science olympiads, researcher and inventor who is in training to be part of the new generation of astronauts who will be sent to the Moon and Mars on future space missions. Laysa was awarded the Medal of Honor for Merit by NASA and the Brazilian government for having made important scientific discoveries, including the discovery of Asteroid LPS0003, the discovery of new planets in the Universe and for having classified more than 1400 galaxies. In 2024, she will make history by being the first female astronaut from Brazil and Latin America to conduct experiments in zero gravity. At the age of 19, Laysa became one of the youngest inventors in the history of the Space Agency to lead the development of technologies. Her inventions have been selected by NASA, including the creation of the technology being developed to extract water from the Moon and the AI that will be responsible for helping astronauts on Mars in the future. Laysa is on the global list of today's most influential women scientists and was named as one of the world's young leaders who are changing the world by UNITE2030. As well as preparing to go into space, Laysa Peixoto is studying and researching Computer Science and Physics at Manhattan College in New York and is CEO of the Elliptica Foundation.
